Abstract

We have developed a new method for impregnating Nafion solution into the catalyst layer of homemade hydrophobic electrode using capillary process. Those electrodes show better performance and higher utilization of catalyst (detected by CV and TEM) than traditional spray method in PEMFC. According to the results of SEM photograph and linear_analysis of sulfur and platinum for the electrode cross_section, we can conclude that the resin is uniform in the catalyst layer and has almost same depth as catalyst in the impregnated electrode. While in traditional method resin is not uniform in the catalyst layer and penetrates into the diffusion layer, cathode will be flooded in this condition.
