Virtual Special Issues (VSIs)
Beginning in 2024, Journal of Electrochemistry adopted the Virtual Special Issue (VSI) model to enhance both the visibility and timeliness of thematically related research. Unlike traditional special issues, which compile all relevant articles within a single dedicated issue, VSIs bring together articles on a specific theme that are published across regular issues as soon as they are ready. These articles are then curated and listed on a dedicated VSI webpage, ensuring thematic cohesion while providing continuous access and timely visibility to the latest research within the selected topic.
Each VSI is structured with the following elements:
- Defined thematic scope: Each VSI is organized around a topic that reflects current scientific developments and aligns with the journal’s aims.
- Guest Editor oversight: Guest Editors are invited based on subject expertise. Their involvement is overseen by the Editor-in-Chief or designated editorial board members.
- Editorial and peer review integrity: All submissions follow the same editorial workflow and peer review process as regular submissions. Final editorial decisions are made independently of Guest Editors.
- Clear presentation: Each VSI is introduced with an editorial note or preface and includes clear labeling in metadata and article presentation.
This model allows the journal to highlight focused scientific themes while maintaining transparency, independence, and editorial quality.
Submission transparency:
While some contributions may be invited, unsolicited submissions are generally welcome and fully considered. In certain instances, however, the special issue may feature invited contributions only, such as those associated with specific conferences or events. An invitation does not imply automatic acceptance. All submissions are subject to the same editorial standards and peer review criteria to ensure academic integrity.
