Introduction
The pursuit of carbon neutrality and high-quality development has emerged as a global imperative, driving rapid advancements across diverse scientific and technological domains. Electrochemistry, with its unique ability to facilitate efficient energy conversion and storage, environmental remediation, and material synthesis, stands at the forefront of this transformative journey. This virtual special issue, featuring invited papers from the 21st National Conference on Electrochemistry, offers a comprehensive exploration of how electrochemical science and technology are pivotal in achieving these overarching goals.
The collection encompasses a wide spectrum of research endeavors that underscore the versatility and significance of electrochemistry. In the energy sector, papers delve into cutting-edge developments in electrochemical energy storage devices, such as advanced lithium-ion batteries, zinc ion batteries, and fuel cells. These studies not only focus on enhancing energy density, improving cycling stability, and reducing costs but also leverage advanced characterization methods. From developing high-performance photo(electro)catalysts to boost the efficiency of electrochemical reactions to creating advanced electrode materials for energy storage and conversion, these studies, combined with advanced characterization methods, open up new avenues for material innovation and technological breakthroughs, aiming to provide sustainable solutions for meeting the surging global energy demands while minimizing carbon emissions.
