Abstract

A novel Zn MnO 2 battery ststem by use of spinel related MnO 2 as positive electrode and Zn(ClO 4) 2 in propyl carbonate as electrolyte was constructed and its charge discharge behaviour was studied. The results show that the cell reaction of the system proceeds through the electrochemical intercalation of zinc into the crystalline lattice of MnO 2 to form Zn x Mn 2O 4 . At x≤0.5 , Zn x Mn 2O 4 remains its spinel structure stable and exhibits high reversibility for zinc intercalation. As a result, the battery system demonstrates excellent cycleability (>200 cycles), higher discharge charge efficiency (>90%) and prolonged storage life.
