Abstract
Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS),Tafel polarization curves and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) were used to study the corrosion inhibition of AZ61 magnesium alloy in 3.5% NaCl medium with tungstate. Results showed that tungstate demonstrates strong inhibition to the corrosion of AZ61 magnesium alloy. At the concentration of 0.01 mol/L,tungstate has a high inhibition efficiency 75.5%.Tungstate is an anodic inhibitor that mainly inhibited the anodic reactions of magnesium alloy through forming a compact protective layer that covered the magnesium alloy surface active sites.
