Abstract
The solution used for the electrolysis consisted of 0.03 mol·dm -3 erythrosin, 0.05 mol·dm -3 sodium tetraborate and 0.5 mol·dm -3 KCl with pH 8.50. Polyerythrosin film with red color has been electrochemically synthesized using repeated potential cycling between -0.20 and 1.10 V (vs.SCE). The film growth and the electrochemical property of polyerythrosin are affected by electrolytic conditions. Two main absorption peaks of polyerythrosin at 326 nm and 370 nm appear in the UV visible spectrum, which are different from that of the monomer. Polyerythrosin in dimethyl sulfoxide or dimethylformamide has a strong fluorescence intensity and the fluorescence intensity of polyerythrosin in dimethylformamide is very stable. A polymerization mechanism of erythrosin is suggested based on the experimental results.
