Abstract
The solution used for the electrolysis consisted of 0.03 mol·dm-3 erythrosin, 0.05 mol·dm-3 sodium tetraborate and 0.5 mol·dm-3 KCl with pH 8.50. Polyerythrosin film with red color has been electrochemically synthesized using repeated potential cycling between -0.20 and 1.10 V (vs.SCE). The film growth and the electrochemical property of polyerythrosin are affected by electrolytic conditions. Two main absorption peaks of polyerythrosin at 326 nm and 370 nm appear in the UV-visible spectrum, which are different from that of the monomer. Polyerythrosin in dimethyl sulfoxide or dimethylformamide has a strong fluorescence intensity and the fluorescence intensity of polyerythrosin in dimethylformamide is very stable. A polymerization mechanism of erythrosin is suggested based on the experimental results.
