Abstract

In this work, Nafion/PTFE composite membrane was obtained by impregnating Nafion resin into the porous PTFE substrate membrane. For the obtained composite membrane, the Nafion content is about 50%. Mechanical properties such as the tensile strengths of dry and wet composite membranes and shrinkage upon dehydration were improved compared with Nafion membranes. The fuel cell performance of the 25 μm thick composite membrane was superior to that of Nafion 117 membrane. The oxygen permeability and water content of the composite membranes were also measured and compared with Nafion membranes.
